christmas crafty

I recently got addicted to Pinterest, where I found this inspiration:

How hard could it be? The designer himself even says, "How simple and beautiful is that?"

Well, as regular readers of this blog may have noticed, things don't move very quickly around here.

It took me a while to get the balls.

Then I started stringing them on the hanger,

but decided I didn't like the way the clear balls looked, so I took them all off the hanger and returned the clear ones for more brown ones.

The instructions in the original blog call for hot-gluing the caps on and bending the hanger completely into a circle before stringing the balls. Hmmph. I just wanna get this wreath up on the wall.

Well, when I started trying to bend the hanger once all the balls were strung, the balls started popping off, and I was afraid I would break them.

So... I took all the balls off and hot-glued the caps on,

and put them up on a shelf because someone woke up from a nap and needed a snack.

A week or so later, I strung them on the hanger again and finally got the ends of the hanger twisted back together. But, a lot of the hanger was still showing, so I played around with some ribbon, trying to cover it up.

I got it looking ok, but I really needed wider ribbon to hang it on the wall. But then I was busy prepping for Miles' birthday party, and then I was busy prepping for Christmas, and then it was Christmas, and there's no wreath on the wall.

Maybe next year...

painting!

The living room was painted a little over three years ago and it looked fine, but the super-white walls were a bit much, especially since Chachi won't let me hang anything on the poor, long, blank, bare wall. So, we decided to find a subtle color and tone down the white.

I originally thought we'd find a really pale blue, to complement the dark blue wall, but more than a dozen paint chips and at least six sample pots of paint later, and we finally chose Sea Pearl, which is basically white.

Mom and Dad were a big help reason the project was completed at all, and on their anniversary too!

It's a little more subtle than I was aiming for but it looks great.

Next step: crown moulding.

home improvement

This has been on the to-do list since we had the hallway painted more than two years ago. Yes, two full years ago.

We had the switch plate cover. We had the screwdriver. But apparently we didn't have the motivation.

Until now!

Don't look too close. I still need to patch the paint that chipped when I took off the old one...
