looks good but...

Roasted a beautiful butternut squash and followed Alice Waters' recommendation to make ravioli filling: butter, salt, and a little cream. Spent a good hour+ filling the wonton wrappers and arranging them so lovely on the plate. Unfortunately, the wrappers dried out and stuck to each other, so when I went to boil and saute them for dinner, it took quite a while to separate them and most ended up ripped or mushed. Grrrr.

Also completely burned the marinated steak, oversalted the carrots, and scorched the sugar topping on the kiwi pudding. Ended up in a total meltdown by the time we finished this awful dinner. But Chachi was a good sport about it.

I only used about half the filling on this go-round, so maybe enough time has passed for me to try this again. Put some wonton wrappers on the grocery list!

fancy fish for heather

We had Heatha over dinner a few weeks ago (gotta make sure she's eating well while Wendy is out of town). Chachi suggested fish, so we picket up the halibut at Real Foods and made this recipe - thanks Martha! Only had 2 lemons, but it still turned out quite lemony. Served it with salad and rice cooker bread. Heather brought delish coffee cake for dessert. She also brought some great wine, wish we had made note of the labels.

more kale!

akp's recipe here turned out fairly well, though I'll skip the picture, as it wasn't the prettiest dish. I only used one can of beans, then mixed the whole thing with pasta. Skipped the gym that day (getting over another bad cold) and picked up the beans and sausage at Molinari's. Wish I could shop at all of the little stores in the neighborhood every night.
