major progress in the back

We purchased and installed a new hose holder. On.The.Same.Day. That's huge.

Of course, it took me 3 weeks to upload the photos and blog about it, but still.

oh elmo

Miles has a few pairs of underpants, and these are his favorite. I can't help laughing at how it looks like Elmo is hugging Miles' tushie.

zoo-hoo!

Our membership was about to expire, so we took a quick trip to the zoo. The petting zoo was a big hit.

ikea inspiration

Chachi graciously allowed me a few hours at Ikea by myself. It was like a vacation.

These tables would be fun with a coat of bold spray paint - just the metal rims, for a pop of color.

I have ambitious plans for a dresser makeover for Miles, and these knobs would be fun, though I'd prefer a matte finish.

I'm not sure I have the DIY skills to pull this off, but this bowl would make a really cool pendant lampshade.

Again, a coat of spray paint in a bold color would make these pendants really pop.

I liked these little glass bowls so much I got a set in green. They match our kitchen tiles perfectly!

I think this tea pot is super-cute

and paired with a set of these glass mugs, it would make a great hostess or housewarming gift.

If Chachi ever lets me hang anything on the living room walls, these square frames would be a nice option.

These doormats are nice the way they are, or add a border or monogram with spray paint and a stencil.

I wondered around and let the creative juices flow for over 3 hours, but I spent less than $100. Ok, well, just over $100 - I couldn't resist the $1.50 hot dog/ice cream cone combo at the end.

craftastic

I'm sure you are scratching you head, thinking, "But Miles doesn't do crafts..."

That's right, folks. This blog is taking a detour from the 24-7 Miles Show. Hold onto your hats.

Ages and ages ago, when I first got hooked on Pinterest, I pinned this idea, via http://rachelmahan.tumblr.com/.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the original post, or any instructions, so I had to make it up as I went.

First, I dug out some vases from our wedding, and an assortment of rubber bands in various widths.

Then I roughed up the surface with sandpaper, though I'm not sure that was really necessary, and taped the inside of the glass so the paint would stay on the outside. The last step was to randomly stretch the rubber bands around the glass, which was harder than it sounds. Now we're ready to spray paint!

Our backyard is a bit windy, so it took 4 or 5 light coats to get good coverage.

The end result isn't as nice as the inspiration. I thought the black paint would be dramatic, but I think it's just too dark. I also thought using rubber bands in different widths would be interesting, but in hindsight, I think the original idea was better. And next time I'll use fewer rubber bands.

Stay tuned for more fun crafts!

We rearranged in Miles' room.
